Mário Sequeira, after 25 years of regular activity (1994 - 2019), ended its gallery program. Currently is founder of Serralves Museum, and dedicates its efforts to the organization of public art projects, collaborating with museums and other institutions, and advising some private collections.
Meanwhile, and continuing with the initial project of this space, Duarte Sequeira started in 2019 his own program, completely independent and innovative.
Mário Sequeira Gallery was founded in 1994 in Braga, north of Portugal, and comprises three exhibiting areas: a historical building, a farmhouse from the late xix century, a 900 square-meter contemporary building, and a sculpture park within the bounds of an expansive green area.
The main exhibition building was designed by Carvalho Araújo. Throughout its history, the gallery held the first solo presentation of Andy Warhol in Portugal, solo shows of Richard Long, Franz West and Nan Goldin, besides some major group exhibitions including Gerhard Richter, Sigmar Polke, Georg Baselitz, Noble and Webster, and Gilbert&George.

A close relationship with Richard Long also led to various interventions in the gallery with significant site-specific works still on display. The gallery has commissioned several large-scale projects for the sculpture park and presented works by Anselm Kiefer, Tony Cragg, Rachel Witheread, Anish Kapoor and Pedro Cabrita Reis alongside.
The exhibition program was focused on highlighting and supporting the work of national and international artists, emphasizing curate practice, artist residency programs and educational projects.
